This is what we mean by bare root plants, this is how your
plants will be shipped. The size of the plants depends on
the time of year and what plants you ordered. These plants
are ones that were harvested in June of this last season.
Please be careful as you unpack your boxes, that you do not
accidentally break or throw away any plants in the bags. During
the warmer months we pack them with ice packs to keep them cool |

This is an example of how you should pack the soil , in your
pots. This is important as the soil will settle quite a
bit when it goes into the pond. Be sure to wet the dirt
before planting your lily it will make it much easier to push it
into the soil, and less chance of breaking the crown.
Remember you don't need special soil lilies like clay like soil,
good old garden soil will do .
|

Be sure to fertilize your lilies, and your lotus, lilies are
good feeders and they will give more blooms if fed correctly.
We feed ours every 4-6 weeks during the growing season, which is
from April to September here in Colorado. We have tabs and
spikes available it just depends on what
you prefer. Do not feed your lilies or lotus when the
growing season is over, they will need to go dormant in order to
replenish the root ball. Usually they start this process
as the days get shorter.
|

When you have prepared the soil and are ready to plant your
lily, be sure not to cover the crown, just plant the lily deep
enough to cover up to the crown.
We mentioned in our instructions that you can just lay
the Lotus tuber on the soil and anchor it with a few rocks and
it will send out its roots and anchor itself. This is the best
way for lotus. |

After you have planted your lily, you should put
about 1 to 3 inches of pea gravel so the dirt does not float
away in the pond. Again be careful when you are putting
the gravel in not to cover the crown on the lily, and be careful
not to break the growing tip on the lotus.
|

Water the lily again before putting it into the pond . To
introduce your lily into the pond place the pot on a stand
or some bricks so the crown is just a few inches below the
water. Remove the bricks as the growth increases until the
lily is 18" to 24" below the surface.
You will want to do the same with your lotus, the growing tip
should be 6" below the water at first and then should be
lowered to 12".
